Staging & Live Production
Last updated: 6 November 2026
1. About this Legal Notice
This Legal Notice applies to newswova, a commercial website that publishes technical and editorial material about live television production: studio equipment integration, camera technique and movement, acoustic treatment and monitoring, lighting design, and the production workflows that hold a live programme together. It explains who operates the site, how that operator is registered, what you may and may not do with the material published here, and which laws govern the relationship between you and us.
The notice is written to be read on its own, but it does not replace the other documents that govern your use of the site. Our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Terms and Conditions, Payment and Refund Policy, Accessibility Statement, Sustainability Policy and Modern Slavery Statement are separate documents, and section 10 below explains how they fit together with this page.
By browsing the site, submitting an enquiry through the contact form, or otherwise interacting with the material published here, you confirm that you have read and understood this Legal Notice. If you do not accept it, the correct course of action is to stop using the site.
2. Who we are and our role
newswova is operated by Shoot Blue Limited, a company registered in England and Wales. The company's registered business activity is the rental of camera and lighting equipment for film, television and media production, and the site functions as an extension of that professional activity: it is a technical reference point for the people who plan, light, rig, shoot and run live television output.
Our role in relation to the website is that of publisher and operator. We decide what appears on the site, we maintain it, and we are responsible for the way the site is presented. We are not a broadcaster, a commissioning editor or a regulated news provider, and nothing published here should be read as an instruction to any production to follow a particular method. Any technique described on the site must be assessed by a competent person against the circumstances of the specific studio, gallery, outside-broadcast truck or location in which it would be used.
Where the site describes equipment, we describe it as we understand it at the time of writing. Product lines, firmware, connector standards and manufacturer specifications change frequently, and the description on this site is not a substitute for the manufacturer's own documentation, the applicable risk assessment, or the advice of a qualified engineer.
3. Legal form, registration details and tax identifiers
The following statutory information identifies the operator of this website. It is provided in line with the disclosure requirements that apply to UK companies trading online, including the Companies Act 2006 and the company name and trading disclosures regulations made under it, and the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 as they apply in the United Kingdom.

The registration details above can be verified independently through the public register maintained by Companies House. VAT information can be verified through the European Commission's VAT number validation service, which continues to accept United Kingdom VAT numbers for checking purposes.
Shoot Blue Limited does not hold itself out on this site as providing regulated financial, legal, medical, broadcasting-licence or health-and-safety consultancy services. Where the site touches on safety-critical subjects such as rigging loads, electrical distribution, or acoustic exposure limits, the content is general and educational, and it does not replace statutory guidance, British Standards, or the judgement of a competent person on site.
4. Registered office and how to reach us
Our registered office and principal place of business is University of Salford, MediaCityUK, Salford, Greater Manchester, M50 2HE. This is the address to which formal written notices, service of documents and correspondence relating to this Legal Notice should be sent.
You can reach us by email at [email protected] or by telephone on +44 (0)161 295 4545. The site also provides a contact form, which is the quickest route for general enquiries about equipment availability, technical questions and press or editorial matters. Enquiries submitted through the form are handled during normal business hours, and we aim to respond within a reasonable period, normally within a small number of working days. We do not guarantee a response time, and the contact form should not be used for urgent operational matters during a live production, for which the telephone line is more appropriate.
Formal notices relating to intellectual property complaints, data protection requests or contractual disputes should be marked clearly and sent in writing to the registered office or by email to [email protected], so that they can be routed to the correct responsible person. Please do not send original documents by post unless we have asked you to.
5. Purpose, scope and intended audience
The site exists to support professionals working in live television: producers, directors, vision mixers, camera operators, lighting directors, sound supervisors, studio managers, riggers and technical engineers. Its subject matter includes studio equipment integration and signal flow, dynamic camera techniques and movement, acoustic optimisation for studios and galleries, lighting setups for multi-camera environments, and the reliable production processes that allow news programmes, interviews, panel discussions and continuous live shows to go to air predictably.
The intended audience is a professional and semi-professional one. Nothing on the site is directed at children, and the site is not designed or marketed as a consumer product, a retail storefront or a source of entertainment content. Where a page describes a workflow, it assumes that the reader has the training and the authority to apply it safely.
The content is provided for information and professional development. It is not a quotation, an offer, a contractual commitment to supply any particular item of equipment, or a warranty that a described technique will produce a particular result in a particular studio. Availability, pricing and specification of hire equipment are always confirmed separately in writing.
6. Access to the site and acceptable use
We aim to keep the site available continuously, but access is provided on an "as available" basis. We may suspend, withdraw, restrict or change all or part of the site without notice where we consider it necessary for maintenance, security, legal compliance or the protection of our systems or those of third parties.
You may access the site for legitimate professional, educational and research purposes. When using it, you must not:
- use automated tools to scrape, crawl, harvest or systematically copy content in a way that imposes an unreasonable load on our infrastructure or removes the context in which the material was published;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers, its content management system or any connected database, or probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the site without our prior written consent;
- introduce malicious code, ransomware, denial-of-service traffic or any other material designed to disrupt the site or the systems of other users;
- frame, mirror, proxy or re-present the site or substantial parts of it in a way that suggests an association with, or endorsement by, us where none exists;
- misrepresent your identity or affiliation, or impersonate newswova, Shoot Blue Limited or any member of its staff;
- use the site or any material taken from it to build or train a competing database, publication or commercial service, or to mislead any person about the safety or suitability of a technique or item of equipment.
The site is not a user-to-user service. It does not host public profiles, comment threads, message boards, private messaging or the sharing of user-uploaded content. If that changes, this notice will be updated and the relevant content standards will be published before the change takes effect.
7. Intellectual property and permitted use of content
All material on the site, including text, diagrams, illustrations, photographs, page layout, typography, code and the selection and arrangement of content, is owned by Shoot Blue Limited or used under licence, and is protected by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, by database right and, where applicable, by trade mark and design law.
The names newswova, Shoot Blue Limited and any associated logos, badges or wordmarks are trade marks or trading names of the operator. Nothing on this site grants you a licence to use them, and they must not be used in a way that is likely to confuse any person about the source of goods or services, or that suggests sponsorship or approval that has not been given in writing.
What you may do
- read, view and print individual pages for your own personal, professional reference or internal training use;
- quote short extracts, with clear attribution to newswova and a reference to the page from which the extract is taken;
- share individual pages using ordinary social sharing features or by sending the address to colleagues.
What you may not do without written permission
- reproduce, republish, redistribute or syndicate substantial parts of the site on another website, platform, intranet, newsletter or commercial publication;
- sell, license, sub-license or otherwise commercially exploit the content, or include it in a paid course, app or database;
- create derivative works, translations or adaptations of substantial parts of the site;
- remove or obscure copyright notices, credits or attribution statements.
Requests for permission, including requests to reproduce diagrams or to use material for training courses, should be sent to [email protected] with details of the material and the intended use. We aim to answer reasonable requests promptly and we may grant permission subject to conditions, including a credit line and, where appropriate, a fee.
Reporting infringement
If you believe that material published on this site infringes your copyright, trade mark or other rights, please write to [email protected] with your name and contact details, identification of the work you say is infringed, the address of the page concerned, and a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised. We will review the complaint and, where it is well founded, remove or amend the material promptly.
8. Accuracy, availability and limits of liability
We prepare the content of this site with reasonable care and skill, and we correct errors when they are identified. Nevertheless, the content is provided for general information only. It is not advice on which you should rely for a specific production decision, and you should obtain professional or specialist advice before acting on any material concerning rigging, electrical distribution, acoustic exposure, camera safety or live transmission architecture.
We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, free of viruses or other harmful components, or that any defect will be corrected. Links, technical references and product names may become out of date. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all conditions, warranties and other terms that might otherwise be implied by statute, common law or the law of equity.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any loss of profits, loss of business, loss of anticipated savings, loss of goodwill, loss of data, or any indirect or consequential loss arising out of or in connection with the use of, or inability to use, this site or any material on it. Our aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with your use of the site is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred pounds sterling.
Nothing in this Legal Notice limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for any breach of a term implied by section 9 or section 10 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 where that Act applies, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Nothing in this notice affects your statutory rights.
9. External links and third-party content
The site may link to websites, documents and services operated by third parties, including manufacturers, standards bodies, industry associations and regulatory authorities. Those links are provided for convenience and context only. We do not control third-party sites, we do not endorse their content, and we are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, security or privacy practices.
When you follow an external link, you leave our site and the terms and policies of the destination site apply. We recommend reading those terms before providing personal data or entering into any transaction. If you believe a link from this site leads to unlawful, misleading or harmful material, please report it to [email protected] so that we can review it.
Where the site summarises or refers to third-party standards, manufacturer documentation or published research, the summary is ours and the authoritative text remains that of the third party. Any statistics, model numbers or technical specifications attributed to third parties are quoted as understood at the time of publication.
10. Privacy, cookies and other policies that apply
This Legal Notice works alongside a set of documents that each deal with a distinct part of your relationship with us. They are listed below in plain text; the current version of each is published on this site and is available on request.
- Privacy Policy: explains what personal data we collect through the site and the contact form, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the rights available to you under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Cookie Policy: explains the cookies and similar technologies used on the site, their purposes, their durations and how you can manage or withdraw consent through the cookie banner.
- Terms and Conditions: governs the supply and hire of equipment and any related services, and prevails over this notice in the event of a conflict about a supply.
- Payment and Refund Policy: explains how payments, deposits, invoices, cancellations, refunds and credits are handled.
- Accessibility Statement: sets out the accessibility standard the site aims to meet and how to report a barrier.
- Sustainability Policy: describes how we approach energy use, waste, equipment life-cycles and travel in the course of our operations.
- Modern Slavery Statement: sets out the steps taken to identify and reduce the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chain.
Where this Legal Notice and a signed hire agreement conflict, the signed agreement prevails for the subject matter it covers. Where this Legal Notice and the Privacy Policy conflict on a question about personal data, the Privacy Policy prevails.
11. Applicable law, courts and dispute resolution
This Legal Notice, its subject matter and its formation are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Subject to the consumer protections described below, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with this notice or the site.
If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your own country, and nothing here prevents you from relying on the mandatory consumer protection rules of the part of the United Kingdom in which you live. If you are a consumer, you may also use the European Consumer Centre network where it is available to you.
Complaints and alternative dispute resolution
We would always prefer to resolve a concern directly. If you are unhappy with anything connected with the site or with a supply made through it, please contact us first at [email protected] or +44 (0)161 295 4545 with a clear description of the issue, and we will investigate and respond. Most concerns can be resolved at this stage.
Under the Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Competent Authorities and Information) Regulations 2015, we are required to tell you whether we are prepared to use a certified alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider. We are not currently a member of a certified ADR scheme for consumer disputes arising from this website, and we are therefore neither obliged nor currently willing to participate in ADR proceedings before a certified provider. This does not affect your right to bring a claim in court, or to complain to a relevant regulator such as the Information Commissioner's Office in relation to data protection matters.
12. Changes to this notice and how to keep in touch
We may update this Legal Notice from time to time to reflect changes in the law, in our registration details, in the structure of the site or in the way we operate. The version published on this page at the time of your visit is the version that applies. Where a change is material, we will make that clear by revising the date at the top of the page and, where appropriate, by publishing a short summary of what has changed.
You are responsible for checking this page periodically if you need to be sure of the current terms. Continuing to use the site after a change has been published constitutes acceptance of the revised notice.
Questions about this Legal Notice, requests for permission to reuse content, complaints and formal notices should be sent to [email protected], by telephone to +44 (0)161 295 4545, or in writing to University of Salford, MediaCityUK, Salford, Greater Manchester, M50 2HE. We will acknowledge written communications where an acknowledgement is requested and will deal with them as promptly as we reasonably can.
